I am currently sitting in my basement with tears streaming down my cheeks. I'm watching the movie "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel". I'm not crying because what I'm seeing is sad, or the story is intense and heartbreaking, in fact I'm hardly very far into the movie at all! I'm crying because it's beautiful These tears are filled with a longing for the past, and the appreciation of what I've been lucky enough to experience. The way that India is portrayed in this movie brings up every wonderful and terrible aspect of it. How the children play in the streets, how everyone is so interested in the foreigners. How the food is so delicious and exotic and scary and does weird things to your body. How nice everyone is, how beautiful their minds work. How colorful all the textiles are, how there are vendors all over the streets. How the architecture is so old and unique. How unsafe it is to be in the streets and how the cars are anywhere and everywhere and constantly honking. How it's all so Indian. How all of it is such an overload to your senses, from your skin to your eyes, nose, ears and mostly your heart.
I just can't help what India brings out in me. It is such a magical place. I really can't even put into words how my soul has been altered by this country.
"There is no past that we can bring back by longing for it. Only a present that builds and creates itself as the past withdraws."

I'd love to hear what you have to say, about what I have to say.
